Access roms outside home folder in Linux?

I have all my roms on a large drive in my system, this drive is mounted as /mnt/user.

When I access the rom folder on that drive from within Retroarch, it shows as empty. I can only see roms that are in my Home folder. I assume this has something to do with Retroarch being a “snap” installation in Ubuntu software manager.

I even tried creating a folder link to it, within my Home folder - it will go to that folder, but as before, it still shows as empty.

I have copied a handful of roms to the home folder to use for now but the rom folder is very large and is on that external location for a reason. How can I point Retroarch to that location and have it read the files?
