Cannon Spike (DREAMCAST) -HD Texture pack Reicast (released 25/2)

INSTRUCTIONS: Create a folder with the name “textures” inside “system/dc” and, in there, put the folder “T1215N” And then , enable the option “Load custom textures” in Reicast options.

Reicast doesnt have an option to prefetch the custom textures like in dolphin emulator (preload at the beginning of the emulation) so, if the texture is too big, theres a delay until the new texture loads ingame.

The pack is a combination between upscaled Gigapixel textures and New textures, because i didnt like some textures and other were so low resolution (or so bad) than i cant improve them with gigapixel.

One thing that i note is that, the emulator tend to crash sometimes when you use save-states with a custom texture pack applied, if you use saves, save on main menu.

The custom texture pack works with the USA T1215N version of the game.

Very interesting, these textures as you got them? Very interesting, the texture of the stones as you did it?

Its the original texture upscaled with gigapixel, its a program that uses Artificial Intelligence neural networks (like ESRGAN)

But ESRGAN its a pain in the ass to make it work. Gigapixel its really easy.

I can give you a link if you want:

Very nice work, looks much better now. Thank you!

Thank you! Can you show me how to change the textures? I want to try it with some games.

First, you have to create two folders, one with the name “texdump” and other with the name “textures” inside the folder:

system\dc

You should know that, to extract a texture (having dump textures activated in retroarch options) you have to “see the texture” so you must play all the game ,see all menus, etc. So, in the moment the game load the texture, the emulator will dump that texture.

Then, you go to the folder texdump and you will see all the dumped textures. You modify the textures, and then, put the results on “textures” folder.

In retroarch you have to enable the option " load textures" and there you go.

A problem with Reicast is that, depending of the game, some texture will crash the game when you modify them, so, sometimes, you have to test which texture is making the emulator to crash. Its tedious but for the moment, its what it is.

For example, in crazy taxy, the textures of the menu (the black and white car at character selection screen) crash the game when a client goes into your car. You delete them and the game works OK. I dont know in that specific case why a menu texture crash the game when you start playing, but at the moment, is how this works. And it depends of game, for example, power stone 2 doesnt have any problem with the textures crashing the game.

And the last thing that i note is that, the emulator tend to crash sometimes when you use save-states with a custom texture pack applied, if you use save-states, save-state on main menu or avoid using them if possible.
