Hardware recommendation: AMD Ryzen 3 or 5?

I’m about to build a small and quiet emulation machine on basis of of a 35W Ryzen setup. It going to be either the Ryzen 3 2200GE or Ryzen 5 2400GE.

I’ve found conflicting reports if and how well cores can utilize multi-threaded/multi-core CPUs and GPUs.

Would the additional cores, hyper-threading and more powerful Radeon Vega 11 of the Ryzen 5 2400GE be of any noticeable help in cores like Dolphin or Kronos?

Faster single-threaded performance matters far more than more cores.

According to the Dolphin Benchmarks spreadsheet, a lowly Pentium G4560 was about 40% faster than the Ryzen 5 2400G (no numbers for the GE).

But obviously the Ryzen G series has far better integrated GPUs, and better performance for multi-threaded tasks (video encoding, etc…) If you’re going to do stuff other than emulation, you’re fine. Even for Dolphin, Ryzen 5 2400G is full speed and working fine.
