Integrate Gamebases (C64, Amiga) and MAME-Filter in Lakka...?

Hello!

First of all I am very grateful to all supporters and developers who are continuously developing Lakka! Thank you very much! I hope i can give something back to the community in future - but for now i am new into my Raspi and i am learning a lot…

I own an raspi 3b now for a few weeks and already tested recalbox and lakka. By now i prefer Lakka. I Like the xmb menu and its very easy to use.

My goal with my Raspi: Easily browse and play nes, snes, atari, sega, MAME, c64, amiga-games… perhaps some of my favorite DOS-Games. I want to see a screenshot of every game and perhaps showing up some information about the game.

So here is the challenge: On my PC/Mac i am using Gamebase64/Gamebase64Browser (by Andreas Varga), Gamebase Amiga/fs-uae, fs-uae arcade, MAME (good filter, Screenshots, …). For the rest (nes, snes, gb…) i am using openEMU.

The (prefered) Solution with Raspi3: For snes, nes, Sega Mastersystem the Integration/Screenshots in lakka is great for me. There could be more information about every game (like emulationstation) but thats not very important for me.

But: For c64, Amiga and MAME i expected (i miss) a “out of the box” solution with screenshots/Filter by Genre functionality, … Because for c64 and Amiga there are very good Databases (Gamebases) and for Mame of course its all there, too. I thought it would be very easy to integrate all these “ready to use informations” into a frontend like Recalbox/RetroPie/Lakka…?

I found this: Simple Arcade Multifilter - app for MAME and FB Alpha ROM sets is very interesting for filtering MAME Games by Genre. But its a job to create playlist “by hand”. I expected this function to be inside the Gaming-Frontend/Gui.

I read - the Support of vice in lakka is very young - so there was nothing to optimize/develop the last years - because c64 was not supported in lakka (as far as i know/read…). But perhaps i missed something and there is a simple solution to bring that "gamebase-Information and Filter by genre-Feature " (for c64, amiga and mame) to lakka…? I know there are some Tools, Scripts, … out there. But a “easy to use” Integration of these Gamebase-Information in Lakka would be awesome.

Or i am the only one who’s having a request like this? I hope not :-o

**Update/Edit (Workarounds) ** Hm. I think the magic is to extract the Gamebase-Database-Information and generate a gamelist.xml. Then you can put all of your games into c64 / amiga folder and all the games are integrated in lakka. Like this (not based on Gamebase-Database but based on separated .NFO Files): https://blog.spreendigital.de/2016/01/04/convert-your-gamebase64-c64-rom-files-to-emulationstation-retropie-recalbox-format/ I’ll try this… But this is not the solution for filter games per Genre directly in lakka. But with the Data information of the Gamebase Database its possible to create static playlists… (like the Solution for MAME above).

**Update/Edit (thoughts about future requests) **

  • Integrate “open Amiga Database” to identify Commodore Amiga Games (incl. many metadata): http://openretro.org

Successfully installed mame 0.78 (https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/MAME), c64 (gamebase c64 v15 with vice and lr-vice via https://blog.spreendigital.de/2016/01/04/convert-your-gamebase64-c64-rom-files-to-emulationstation-retropie-recalbox-format/). and Amiga (http://www.ultimateamiga.co.uk/HostedProjects/RetroPieAmiga/guide.html) on Retropie. Im satisfied with that.

Give Lakka and RetroArch another six months to a year. It’s evolving quickly.

For example, the next version of Lakka will have MAME playlist scanning capability. libretro is now maintaining catver.ini category/genre files as part of the MAME core repositories. There’s no way to incorporate that data now or sort with it, but that’s what we used to say about MAME playlist generation.

In the meantime I’m making some improvements to those catver files in order to be ready for whatever happens
