AI being used in Retroarch?

No.

The opposite argument can be made: the moment you put your code out there, it could be in the hope that the community would take it on and build something bigger out of it, with or without your help.

Then report them on Github issues like everyone else does, don’t post about it here which gets exactly nothing done (and might go unread)

I would hope posting something here gets as much attention as something on github. Due to githubs tos & pp is a reason why I don’t make a github account. I’d rather post my issues to the forum & get results here. It’s not good to force one location which is provided by a third party provider. Could make a sub forum in retroarch forum as bugs/issues report.

That’s a terrible idea. The benefits of posting issues on github is that it gives the developers one dedicated place to look, with each issue having it’s own thread. This also lets you directly links issues to PRs, allowing you to clearly see which PR addresses which issue, as well as the ability to re-open said issues in case there is a regression.

This isn’t exclusive to github of course, it applies to any version control hub, but github is what RA uses.

That’s making certain demands on my time and workflow as a developer I don’t really feel comfortable with. This is not up for negotiation. This has been the workflow for all this time, and it’s not going to change.

There is actually a thread in this forum to talk about suggestions for development of RetroArch (it’s not for core suggestions). This is probably your best next option if you want to avoid Github. But its not an official bug tracker or suggestion for the project: Development Suggestions

I did’t know reading on the forums is extra time for you. I thought maybe you had someone who actively reads on the forum & maybe relays it to you. I guess you don’t need an extra subforum retroarch forum I see has many & it’s broken dowm enough.

hunterk sometimes does. but yeah, he really shouldn’t have to, and people should just use the GIthub issues page instead

Some people prefer the source place over the third party handler you know? Like those people who release their stuff then say you can only get support for it if you’re in our discord. Like who wants to have to sign up to spyware facial recognition big shadow bro in order to get support for one thing.

I get it though.

Github is the source. And comparing this to Discord is a bit disingenuous. Github is the platform where it is developed, and all issues are tracked. There could be made an argument to move off from Github to a different place using Git, but the principle is the same: a single location for tracking and working with issues. This makes it easy to track issues, reference them, mark them as solved independent from any other platform. Developers don’t want to scatter this through all other places. This also helps the user searching for issues, and also not reporting something twice.

I get your issue with Github though. But as much as you ask not to force using Github, the developers ask you not to force them other platforms for developing and tracking issues. Self hosting Git could be a possibility, but then you lose most people who would have helped out. And the cost of self hosting adds up to their cost too.

Lets clarify some things github is not the source it’s owned by microsoft not retroarch. I never asked to go to another platform they already went there if you’ve been reading I said the forums they own & control the forums it’s not another platform owned by someone else. It’s already here & it wouldn’t hurt to either check the sub forums already in place that diversify by android, apple, blackberry, microsoft, nintendo, linux, sony, & windows.

If i’m understanding those sub forums should already be used to report issues but if they aren’t then i’m a little confused on why they exist to casually have conversations on them about using it on brand device? If you need a one dedicated section for all usually what people do is make a section called Bug Reports. Then what happens next is they have one topic stickied with the guidelines on how to format your post or they have an addon to the forum which allows a certain forum to have a template that when you posts loads in the body automatically & you fill the template with your specs.

That’s how people usually keep track of things.

This thread was about AI use in RA, you should probably create a separate thread.

This guy doesn’t want to use anything over Win 7, so he expects people to troubleshoot obscure problems on his outdated PC… and he doesn’t want to use github (everything is spying on him) so he expects the RA guys to re-invent their trouble-ticket system. It seems like it is all about the rest of the world conforming to one person’s perceived personal conveniences.

There is a solution for anyone not wanting to use modern Windows, but want a modern operating system that respects your freedom and does not spy on you: Linux. It has its own issues, but if privacy is the most important thing and someone is using Windows 7 instead, then it would be more safe (and modern) to use a Linux system.

I’m not talking about someone specific, just make general statements as an alternative. RetroArch works on Linux damn good.

I feel like, in an attempt to steer off the trouble ticket discussion, I have inadvertently taken it into a more unrelated and potentially pointless topic of OS wars and for that I’m truly sorry.

“Today I feel like an expert in coding… Claude, make Retroarch work in Windows 7 and make no mistakes”

“Certainly… do you want me to fork it from GitHub?”

“Fork? This is no dinner, are you going to ask me for spoon later or what?”

My bad too. But this is the nature of discussions. Drifting off a bit is healthy I think. So then I have a question:

Would forking RetroArch solve all issues? Is anyone capable of doing this at all? Would anyone of you use a fork? I probably wouldn’t because there is trust involved, and I trust the current RetroArch developers and leaders, even if I do not agree 100% with everything they do. (Edit: Removed a snarky comment. I’m too snarky today.)

I personally wouldn’t, because it’s not morally correct to be like:

1.- Trashing at devs for using AI assistance.

2.- Saying “I’m going to ethically cleanse this Emulator”.

3.- Instead of starting a new one from scratch to prove I’m morally superior, I take all the work from GitHub and “make it better” because no AI.

So yeah, to me, it’s even worse than using AI to assist… but I mean, I have pretty controversial opinions.

EDIT: I’m aware this is the nature of Opensource projects, but this is how I personally feel, not that it matters, in the end anyone will do whatever the F they want, no? I personally wouldn’t though.

But this is the ethical way of doing in Open Source. Forking is one of the core features and reason why we have Open Source. – I see you edited while I was replying. Well, still. I mean we got so many cores through forking. I really think, no one should feel guilty for forking a project and doing something differently, because they have an issue with the main project.

Then if people thinks they’re capable of taking Retroarch/Libretro work and make something better, why not fix Codex commits instead?

Is harder to take Claude’s code, see where it fails, and fix it by hand, than forking, getting rid of “AI” and “morally make it right”?

Again, not sure, I’m just not only a Retroarch user since it was released on Wii, but a code hobbyist learning since 2009 alone and not sure how it goes nowadays.
