Dos Version of Red Alert on Dosbox Pure

This also confuses me. This setting in the core options…

…implies that Ultrasound works. (TBH I have not tried because SB is fine for me.)

Yes, it’s fine to say “I have a game set up in eXo format,” for example.

If you want something ready to use, it is an option, however the eXo are intended to be used with DOSBox and PURE is handled differently, that’s why they give error.

Among my first experiences with eXo…

I remember Tomb Raiden, I searched it by “Tomb Raider enhanced with Playstation Style Audio”. The PC version can include the PSX tracks, I was too lazy to do it.
Well, that’s a configuration patch, all the options work exactly the same as the original game, it doesn’t add anything.

Another one, DOOM, doesn’t offer AdLib and only gives you a ULTRASND option. And what does AdLib matter? Well, 80% of the PCs had a clone of an AdLib, then came the Soundblaster.

Monkey Island does not work with 2 options and passes by the beards, the videos hercules, cga, tandy, mcga and the internal audios, game blaster.

The Monkey Island demo, it is not a demo, it is a prequel chapter of the game. You don’t have it in exo.

You need to install an unofficial expansion to a game like Red Alert. Or you need to add additional content like DOOM wad, in eXo you are going to suffer.

And obviously, we are talking about games in English, but if I want it in Spanish? or in Japanese? eXo does not give support.

Horrible, the amount of versions and distributions that the PC had at that time was scary, I will explain this in a tutorial that I do of pure.

But the organization of TDC is also horrible, it’s a matter of habit. The main thing to know is that there are basically 3 types of zip.
An executable zip. This game starts them directly from the .EXE, without installation.
An installation zip, the files that are installed from an EXE.
A zip with floppy or CD images, well, they are installed.

Well yes, sure, if in game executable, PURE loads any zip and runs it, that’s the idea. You can also download and test.

Use whatever is easiest and most comfortable.

Yes, I hadn’t noticed the answer.

Who said no?

Yes, since preview version 0.9.0, it has support for reading .conf. And it was added because of this report.

In it you can clearly read that people want to autoboot the games. schellingb asks “is it too much to press the key once on the right?”.
“I just don’t want to configure in every game”, they answer “It’s easier to edit a simple text file”.

Let’s see, I don’t want to get intense, but it’s easier to create a .conf file than pressing the right key once on the keyboard?

Seeing people’s requests and responses is abhorrent.

Adicional a esto, If you don’t use zip and load from .conf you lose the playlist, thumbnails, automatic naming and thumbnail downloading.

If you create a list, you can select the Core that will be started automatically, this happens in all Cores.

  1. The implementation of .dosz is because in the first betas, RetroArch did not accept to create .zip in the save folder. Since a long time ago it accepts them and they are not necessary anymore.
  2. the .dosz extension is kept because there were cases that the retroarch interface did not change the disks if they were in a .zip. That was solved with m3u or changing the extension to .dosz. Nowadays, it changes all the disks from a .zip file, it is no longer necessary.

It is not about my opinion, I already showed you the video of how PURE is presented, I am being consistent with the project and out of respect and gratitude to * Psyraven and schellingb who are doing a great job.

I don’t care how you use it, you have to use it the way you feel most comfortable. And we are thankful that we have several options.

But if you use it as you should, you won’t have any problems. For example, David would not have had an error with Red Alert, if he installs it as I explained a thousand times in Crisis in the Kremlin.

But, of course ULTRASOUND works in PURE, very well, just like in DOSBox. It comes turned off by default for two reasons, one is that it consumes less and the other is that if it is activated everything you load will recognize it as the main one.
Pure is preconfigured in the c:\ultrasnd directory. Just open the zip, put folder and close the zip.
Doom of eXo has the folder inside another directory, and does not take it by default. So…
You edit the zip file and move all the files to the root or…
In the PURE interface, start the Command Line and configure a new directory for the gus. by typing what the description tells you.

(this is the Doom directory in Exo) SET ULTRADIR=C:\DOOM\ULTRADIR

If you activate the ULTRASOUND, you have to configure the game audio in setup.exe and select Gravis Ultrasound.

You can have the original Gravis ULTRASOUND v.4.11 or the edited Pro Patches Lite 1.61.

And you can switch between the two with in the command line by typing. SET ULTRADIR=C:\ULTRA161
for the edited 161 o…
SET ULTRADIR=C:\ULTRADIR
to return to the original

I am about done with this conversation.

I have learned a lot about support in the last three years, supporting the Mega Bezel, my graphics, and my presets.

We are on the 45th post in this thread.

In post seven, my first response, I solved the issue… in the context of the original question.

That could/should have been the end of it. Full stop.

All that has been said since has done more to hurt the community than help.

In an effort to insure this does not happen again, I will no longer directly address you in the forum.

It has been a pleasure.

This attitude is tiring.
I don’t know what you wanted to hear. Everything I told you is in the github release history.

Do you want me to agree with you?
I have a hard time when you say this.

Not really.

The way to make it work is to install it from the disk image. As I told you several times in the previous post.

And I don’t care about the credits. The goal is for people to solve the problem and learn the correct usage.

I still congratulate you for your 45th post in the top, may you have much more success.
I have 285 likes and my goal is to reach hunterk :¬)

If you don’t like it or don’t understand it, it can’t be done anymore.
Don’t talk to me anymore U.U
Although, you’re going to do it, I know.

Dos Games from GOG I found they work

My friend that is a clever suggestion.

GOG contain a DOSBox executable, and dosbox.conf, and often a cleverly disguised CD image.

In short they may contain unneeded data and you may still want to convert them to a functional ZIP file.

If anyone in the community would like help in converting any of these sources to a clean Pure rom. Please feel free to PM me.

I think this thread has run its course. I’m going to lock it.

Moving forward, please remember my mother’s advice: if you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say anything at all.
