Just discovered Retroarch, followed these instructions to install package:

I started the app. So far I can use my arrow keys to navigate the menus, but I can’t select any options or do anything. It doesn’t seem to respond to any keys on my keyboard but the arrow keys, nor any buttons on my USB game pad.
I’m stuck.
The default accept and cancel buttons are ‘x’ and ‘z’, respectively, on your keyboard. Did you try those?
Once you can navigate with the keyboard, go to the online updater and update your autoconfig profiles, quit retroarch and then re-launch it. That might get your pad working automatically. If not, you can go into settings > input > p1 input binds > bind all and see if it will recognize your pad’s inputs.
