@Dreamstate, I put a black version out there now. I’m guessing that when it was originally released it would have been black and the ink just faded to a blue tint over time. So I made the unfaded version the default and the faded version is there in case someone like me wants it lol.

I think I like the black version even better on this one.

Yeah it’s probably how it was intended to look @benlogan.

One last update to this one to increase the size of the instruction card to make it more legible and more in line with the relative size of the actual card. And with this I think I’ll be taking a break from arcade art for a bit and spending some time away from all the screens.

Where do you find these ganes? I love it! Great job as usual!

I was just clicking around on eBay looking for interesting marquees that were available for sale there and stumbled on this one. Started researching the game and thought it would be cool to do the restoration and overlay for it. I like discovering these obscure titles and bringing them back to life  Glad you like it!

Tokio 4K Vertical Overlay

My vacation was curtailed a bit due to the weather this weekend, so, I had time to work some more on this, my 200th vertical overlay!

I was turned on to this game by R.Coltrane on the MameWorld forums, as there was no hi-resolution marquee or other art available for it in the community. Fortunately I was able to get a fairly nice (though still incomplete, the bottom is a bit chopped off) original marquee online and scanned and restored it.

R.Coltrane also supplied me with fairly low resolution photos of the instruction card and sticker which I recreated by hand from various sources. The final result here is as clean and hi-resolution as I could make it given the sources I had, and while not 100% authentic is still a nice looking set of art.

Finally, there was no bezel for this game originally so I put something together that hopefully remains spiritually consistent with the original artwork. Thanks again to RaspBear for his excellent vectorization of the Romstar logo.

Hope you enjoy!

Nice work @ArsInvictus

Is it me, or are you making the bezels now darker than before? I understand the idea if what you are aiming to is for them to not look like glowing on dark environments, but at least for me it kills the beauty of admiring the art.

Nevertheless, they look awesome!

Thanks @Kondorito! Yes, I am making them darker now. It would be easy enough to offer a light version, as it’s just a single setting in the overlay, and it probably makes sense for me to just start offering both versions.

But if you are running this on a large screen and it’s encompassing your field of vision, then it actually doesn’t look that dark in person, and the marquee and screen become very bright by contrast. If you are looking in a small window, especially if it’s in a bright white browser background then it appears dimmer than it would in actual use.

Gotcha. No need to do two versions if you don’t want to; you are already being kind enough to share your creations in the forum, so do whatever makes you happy  Either way, your overlays are awesome.

I’ve put light bezel versions out in the same directory as the other for Cadillacs and Dinosaurs and Battle Circuit. I’ll make sure to do both light and dark versions of my other overlays as I create and update them.

Congratulations on your’re 200th!! Just wanted to thank you for doing these. Although I’m not using them in 4k they still look amazing on my portrait monitor on my desk. I batch converted all them to 1080x1920 for use in my retropie. No reflective bezel, but I’m contemplating ditching the retropie and hooking the portrait monitor to my main computer as a second display. Really want to use those reflective bezels.

Thanks @aspernormal! That’s very cool, I really have no insight into how many people actually are using my overlays out there, so it’s nice to see your setup. Thanks for sharing!

And, yes, the reflective bezels totally make it.

Gunbird 2 Update

This game gets a disproportionate amount of attention from me, just because it’s so juicily good.

Someday I gotta translate the instruction card.

Updated here with both dark and light versions:
