Hi there,
Absolutely love your program.
I have a suggestion which is probably erring on the side of a lot of fucking work, but here goes.
I feel the playlist/database side of RetroArch is a little weak.
I think that it would be cool if the ROM databases had a parent clone hierarchy for different versions, languages and such, of the same rom. Each game could be listed in the lists once, and the user should be able to choose the variation, possibly in a sub-menu, maybe defaulting to chosen language, 60hz etc…
I think this would also allow much cleaner looking playlists and would be cool if you play romhacks and translation hacks as they could just be listed as a variation of a specific rom, maybe defaulting to an english translation for ‘imports’ if your chosen language is english etc…
I imagine the databases would need more info though, maybe a spreadsheet style companion app would be needed, so people can edit the databases, probably with uploading so the info can be crowd-sourced. Also along these lines I think the databases should be bigger. Use the good* databases, recognize the bad roms, maybe display some sort of notification that the rom is bad?. (maybe not so important)
I hope this is clear to understand… I’m not expecting this to happen as I imagine you all have enough on your plate.
A lot easier, maybe just an option to hide the suffixes, ie. (USA) [!] etc… I know I can edit the playlists, and I do, I just think it looks silly with them. Personally I only import one of each game, but these days it’s a lot easier to just get complete collections and import them as such.
Anyways, I hope you can consider this and I hope something along these lines gets implemented some day.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.
Rock on. \o/
