Analogue Stick Behavior

I know I’ve read about this issue before, but I couldn’t find a solution to it.

When playing N64 and PSX games with an analogue stick, I have serious trouble getting corners to register completely. I had read this can happen when a program expects a ‘square’ analogue range instead of a ‘circle’ like most modern controllers do.

The question is, is there any way to solve this issue? It’s really hard to do quick turns in Excitebike 64 or even just run in Tomb Raider.

Or maybe I have it wrong, and I need to change some other configuration?

I believe that’s what the analog sensitivity options are meant to address. Increase the sensitivity until your corners are full-presses, though it’ll be at the expense of your cardinal directions being more responsive than they should be.

That makes sense, I was just hoping for a solution that didn’t require the compromise - but what can you do, eh? Do you know if there’s any kind of input test rom? Would be awesome to be able to visualize that square while calibrating. I imagine someone had to make something like that… I’ll have to search around.
