when retro arc on the android tv detects a gamepad the 8bit zero for example i can use it but it takes out my tv remote so therefore when im in a game NES for example i cant get back to the retro screen. nothing on the gamepad lets me exit. i have to hit the smart button on my remote and force quit retro arc then come back in. its weird.

The autoconfiguration profiles don’t normally include a menu shortcut unless the controller has a dedicated home/menu button.
Your best options are to go to settings > input > hotkey binds and set your menu toggle to a spare gamepad button, go to settings > input and set up a menu toggle gamepad combo (I typically use down+L1+R1+Y) or go to settings > input > hotkey binds and set up a hotkey enabler on a spare button and then map menu to some other button, then you can hold the hotkey enabler and press the other button to bring up the menu. You could also hardcode a menu button in your autoconfig profile.
I recommend option #2.
