I recommend to keep at least one backup of your cores in case something goes wrong.
It will save you a lot of headaches sometime

I agree you will want to have backups. I disabled them too and am now regretting it. For instance, the bsnes core has started crashing recently and I wasn’t paying attention to when it happened and now I don’t have a roll back.
