I have just found Retroarch and it is a wonderful program. But I am in the middle of playing FF8 on disc 4 and I want to switch over and finish up on retro. I have spent hours trying to figure out what to do. If anyone can tell me if it is possible. I have started playing on PSX4all. Save files are saved differently I have discovered. There are virtual memory card file mcd001.mcr and mcd002.mcr. I am talking about the save file that is made when you save within the game and not the save state.
I only had a FFVII save stored on mcd001.mcr, so I just copied it to ~/Documents/.RetroArch/ and renamed it to FFVII.srm and somehow it worked. You could try to copy yours (provided the memory card file only has a Final Fantasy VIII save stored on it) and then rename it to the same name as your ISO with .srm file extension. No guarantee this will work though.
WOW! It worked. I thought about that but I thought it would never work because of whatever. You know it doesn’t seem like it would work for various reasons. BTW I even had more save files on it too. Thank you so much for your reply it helped me so much because Im at the last boss and it is unplayably slow. Thank you thank you
