So I was about to add a png as a background image, but for some reason it requires a core to be able to use. Is there a specific core that must be used for this situation or is it a glitch and how is it fixed?

How are you trying to set the background?
Settings > User Interface > Appearance > Background Image
From there I can pick a file but then when I pick the file I want it makes me select a core.
Hmm, i can’t reproduce that here. What version of the program are you using? v1.9.0 stable? or a nightly build? if the latter, can you try the former?
Tried the stable. Still getting the same thing.
