Best Controllers to use for Retroarch on PC

Hello!

I’ve set up a PC rig that’ll be my media centre for my home. I love Retroarch but only really used it on the Wii.

I was wondering what would be the best controllers to use for Retroarch on PC. Controllers that I have are: Wii Classic Controller pros x4 PS4 Controllers x4 8Bitdo NES30 Pro Bluetooth Controllers x4

Of course other controller suggestions are good as well but I’d like to stick with what I have. I was leaning more towards the Wii controllers since my friends and I enjoy the wii games but don’t know how well they sync with Retroarch ( + LaunchBox).

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

I think any of those should work fine. If possible, try to use a variety of pads instead of all of the same type because RetroArch can get confused if they’re all the same pad. That is, it may have the same pad control 2 people, etc.

Personally, I use a Buffalo SNES USB gamepad for every 8/16 bits systems, and an XBox One controller for everything else.

I have 4 8Bitdo NES30 Pro and was having tons of issues when using more then one controller with Lakka, since switching to Windows/RetroArch its been flawless using multiple at a time.

XBox controller-after modifying the d-pad though.

For 2D Games i use mostly a “MadCatz FightPad SD” or a “Hori Fighting Stick VX” (Sanwa/Seimitsu-modded ) or unmodded “MadCatz Arcade FightStick PRO”

theese 2 Controllers has not worked for me so far (or not so good at least):

  1. N64 Pad + Mayflash Adapter (has wrong analog input-range)

  2. Noname Chineese SNES Adapter ( 1 Player - grey ) : D-Pad not fully usable (even with remapping).

That’s great to know! Thanks

So it turns out I cannot use the Classic Controller for everything since it does not have the L3 and R3 function. I was hoping to use 1 brand of controller for everything but it looks as though this is not feasible.

Use this > best > gamepad = Speed Link Strike FX wireless Donot use this > gamepad = Speed Link Strike NX with wire beacoz XBOX360 compatible gamepad have button >menu< in the middle XBOX360 and PS3 style menu button !

Speed Link Strike FX wireless

We need to add autoconfig file for Makey Makey device

Lol Banana. That’s awesome!

Until some company comes to their senses and puts a Z & C button on an Xbox setup… we will be SOL on a perfect controller.

(all they do now with those you are probably thinking of after reading this, is MOVE or DUPLICATE the LB&RB to Z&C… they don’t ADD it)

Here is my baby :

Its a Qanba Q4RAF Its perfect for 95% of my games And for other games like racing or 3d platform, I use a 360 controller

You can use an app called SCPToolkit to get your PS3 controllers to work via Bluetooth. It’ll even remap them as Xbox controllers which means they’ll work well with most Windows games. Just bear in mind that using Bluetooth in this way prevents you from using that Bluetooth adapter for other devices. Otherwise, great controllers, with all the buttons you’ll need for most titles.

Personally I’m now using an Xbox One S controller with Retroarch on my PC. It supports Bluetooth natively unlike previous versions. Again, Xbox controllers work natively with pretty much everything on Windows (including Steam). I like that its ABXY button layout makes sense for pretty much all the Nintendo and Sega systems. Also it’s just really solidly built and feels good in hand.

Usually SCPToolkit+DS3 for everything, but sometimes iBuffalo which is an amazing controller for 2D consoles. I have used the DS3 for emulation for years, the D-pad is top notch.

Do anyone know how to make a Wii U Pro Controller work on RetroArch?

I use WiinUSoft to get it to connect to my PC and it works for other games I have installed.

When I open RetroArch I have to allow more than one user to control to get it to work on the main menu.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to get it to work?
