Bsnes cannot save games

Hello everyone,

I’m having quite a strange problem. My roms are all in a directory : d:\games\emulation\snes\roms. They are all just .sfc files, not zipped or anything else. in the same directory are also some older .srm files which represent my earlier savegames BEFORE i tried to use Retroarch.

When i launch a game i can see the savegame, but i cannot overwrite it and the files itself are not read only. Basically Retroarch is not even trying to save the file. I have the same problem even when i remove the srm file prior to launching retroarch.

I’m using the retroarch.exe file as a command line tool, not retroarch-phoenix.exe

So basically i cannot save at all. Using the -v switch does not display error’s while saving, it just doesn’t show any information regarding the save process. I tried setting the save directory manually but that didn’t work either.

Am i missing something obviously ? I am using the latest version of retroarch and the libreto bsnes core (balanced) but older versions have the same problem.

Are you exiting cleanly (i.e., by hitting the escape key)? RetroArch only writes to the files at exit, so if it’s not closing properly, the files won’t get written.

Thank you again hunterK for your quick help on the IRC channel.

Just for the others : Retroarch does not save an SRM file when you save ingame, instead it writes the SRM file when you exit Retroarch by pressing the escape key. I could not exit cleanly since i’m using a controller and a third party application named Maximus Arcade. When exiting it actually kills the process and so the SRM file could not have been updated or crreated.

The solution to this is setting the autosave function inside Retroarch-phoenix.exe. i set it to 5 seconds now and it has had no impact on performance.

Now all my games save correctly and 5 seconds after i saved it writes the file to the HDD.

Once more many thanks for the help trough the IRC channel.

I am having a similar issue with the Android version, and I would like to know if there’s a similar option for the Android. Thanks.

@Curanthir Yes, there is. Just open the RGUI menu by tapping on the overlay button that looks like the RetroArch icon. You will find the autosave option in there.

For some reason, the option doesn’t seem to work. every time o start it up again, auto save is reset to OFF and it doesn’t seem to be saving it automatically.
