Buildbot Core updates?

Since the online updater doesn’t show when a core is updated, i use the buildbot to download them manually. I see the date uploaded, replace the dll and confirm that the one i replace with is newer. This way i know the core is actually updated.

Today though, most cores have today’s date in the buildbot. Does that mean most cores got updated? Or is it something else?

Seems only the Windows one did that the Linux builds isn’t the same:

I’ve often said there’s a need for better communication on when cores are updated. I don’t hold it against anyone, I know they are all busy with things.

I’ve been referred to github… buuuuut that site doesn’t exactly make sense to us wee laymen folk who just want to know if a new version is up.

I do recall reading that when they all have a new date in the buildbot it doesn’t necessarily mean everything was updated, and that therefor it wasn’t a reliable indicator.

The good news is the front page of libretro.com has been better at communicating updates in general than in the past. So steps have been taken.

I just wish we had a small place that was a clear cut listing of exactly what and when.

Reicast - Version 0.2 - Updated on 8/17/17 ParaLLEl - Version 1.6 - Updated on 9/12/17

etc etc.

Like I said though, I know that’s not a top priority with what everyone is working on and stuff.

If a bunch of Windows cores are updated but not Linux cores, that probably means there was something that needed to be applied to a bunch of cores’ Windows builds, like a buildfix for that platform’s compiler, etc.

If we had a page that listed when things were updated, it would have to say things like “ParaLLEl-N64 - buildfix update for Windows”, which is basically what the github commit log says already.

And where is this github commit log please? Is there all the information we need for the updates in cores?

Sorry if this is a stupid question.

i find it that its not really necessary to keep on updating cores, unless you are experiencing some issue and github specifically has updates really to this fix or its a new core that is constantly being updated. the best way to track changes is to keep viewing github page for the specific core. there is not much need to duplicate daily update status from there, unless someone is nice enough to do so.

The new core updates articles that appear on the main libretro site are great for a quick rundown on updates users would be interested in. Just keep tabs on those if you don’t want to follow github.
