Can't properly get out of full screen

Hey there,

I’m using Retroarch 1.9.0 and I’m having trouble using the Fullscreen display.

I can’t alt tab, and can’t even get back to my desktop. The only “solution” is strg+alt+del for going to the task manager, but even then I can’t click anything on my dekstop.

I like to speedrun things, but can’t use LiveSplit at it will always be covered by retroarch, and as I said, I can’t alt Tab anything.

OS: Windows 10 32 bit, I have an Intel HD Graphics 3000. I tried both gl and gl1, no difference.

At first I thought It’s a general Problem of my Laptop, however I have no trouble with other games that run on fullscreen.

Do you want me to quote my whole cfg file over here?

you could try going to settings > video and enabling windowed fullscreen (aka borderless fullscreen).

I know, but that’s not really what I want… also, games that I play (mostly snes) feels much smoother when retroarch is running on full screen. It’s weird, when on fullscreen, it’s almost like Retroarch FORCES itself to be always in front. Even if I somehow get back to my desktop (with task manager) my mouse is gone too during having retroarch open.

I used to have Windows 7 and retroarch 1.8.5 on this Laptop, without any issues about that.

Yes, exclusive fullscreen is definitely better for latency and sync. I’m not sure I know of anything else to do what you’re wanting, though, unfortunately :frowning:

anyone else having an idea?

Does toggling between windowed and fullscreen work for you (F) ? If it does, as a workaround, you could switch to windowed when in need to go back to desktop.

Easiest solution:

  1. Press Win + Tab
  2. Add a new virtual desktop
  3. Open Retroarch
  4. Switch between Retroarch and your new desktop by pressing Ctrl+Win+Right / Left

I would usually open my frequently used applications and leave each of them running in a separate desktop in fullscreen (Kodi, Retroarch, YouTube, Chrome, etc) and quickly switch between them via the approach.

Never witnessed anything like that, fullscreen/windowed-fullscreen/windowed, with any driver.

Running some program that manipulates the always-on-top-stuff…?

Did you try vulkan and glcore too?

gl and gl1 are the ones that work for me. Vulkan doesnt work, haven’t tried glcore yet.

about other programs: Don’t think so: As I said, I only have this issues with retroarch, nothing else that runs on fullscreen.

sucks, cause I can’t have stuff like “Livesplit” on top while playing on Fullscreen.

@crtjoe and @retroplay: Thanks for the suggestions, but those solutions don’t help me with my problem.

anyone?

Is it possible to download 1.8.5 again, so I could test if it makes any difference? can’t find it anymore.

Anyone??^^ not even about the download 1.8.5 thing?

I recall someone uploaded an archive of older stable builds to archive.org awhile back, but I’m having trouble finding it now.

I cant believe there is absolutely no solution for this. Cant anyone of the dev’s link to the older version at least?

We don’t have any archives of old builds handy, but google seemed helpful: https://www.emutopia.com/index.php/emulators/item/389-multi-system/615-retroarch

I actually knew about this site.

However, for some reason, the exe files dont work for me. I would need the 7zip files of 1.8.5.

Does really noone have any idea how to fix this problem?

If you have 7zip installed you can extract RetroArch.7z from the exe.

guys, can we get back to my main problem?

I havent had any suggestion regarding my original question. only weird stuff like starting a virtual desktop and so on.

I can only play on fullscreen as it runs the smoothest way like that.

also, cant believe that noone of the devs can link to the older version.

Still looking… can anyone help me out on the fullscreen problem?
