As some know here, I am a big fan of what Waifu2x can do with old games. First and foremost I’d like it as a real time “shader” for Ps1 emu ( yeah I know, it’s impossible) but for fun I tried to run some Chrono Trigger images thru it and I think it came out very nice! Just need some sharpen, but I could not be bothered with that now. Anyway, just wanted to show you
The noise reduction is too strong for my tastes. You can get better results with waifu2x.
Yeah pherhaps for snes I can agree with that, since every pixel kinda needs to be there Also, I gotta say there is not a big difference on snes games between Waifu2x and a correct set-up of some xbr filtering =)
Waifu2x isn’t good for pixel art. It shines in games with a smooth gradient of colors.
For pixel art I prefer NGU-AA.
Yeah is that the one from MadVR you spoke about? I did not ask about it then. But is it possible to see how a pre-rendered ps1 game can look with it? If possible, is there a setting you can chose closest to waifu?
*Edit - looks great btw!
And this is super-xbr-6p-small-details:
So… when will you convert ngu to Retroarch?
NGU is closed source, unfortunately.
whew, that looks amazing
It looks good. I guess it only upscales, no denoise? Thats a shame it is closed. But I think you eventually gonna figure out something equally good or better, since you did make xbr.
If I use fast-bilateral from RA to denoise, I get this with NGU:
Hm I dont have Re2 on my pc so I can’t direct compare. I think I maybe prefer your xbr. Of course it depends on the game and everything, but this is what I get with a combo of some ReShade settings and xbr
NGU is more powerful. I need to develop an anti-bloating for super-xbr get sharper results without introducing artifacts. The only problem is that I don’t know how to implement this.
Well if I can help in any way I am glad to do it. I am not giving up until we have srcnn upscaling / denoise quality =)
