I recently upgraded my Retroarch to the latest version 1.0.0.1, and it’s confusing with it’s completely new interface. I’ve trying to pair/connect my dual shocl ps3 controller, problem is, the controller overlay & the space invader icon are gone.All I get is the downward half-circular with upside down pyramid shape icon/button. How do I get the space invader icon to reappear again when I launch/play a game? Im stumped? I’ve been trying all the configurations & nothing, I cant get the space invader icon to reappear. 
Have you tapped on the half-circle button? Usually, that’s used to hide/reveal overlays, so it sounds like you’re just stuck on a hidden one. You could also try using a different overlay entirely.
