Crashing in Win 8 at startup

I am in the middle of setting up hyperspin for various emulators and I had NES, SNES, and GBA working fine until today. i am not sure what changed but now whenever I try to run retroarch it crashes right away. I never get the menu or anything. the error I get is

RetroArch [ERROR] :: gfx_ctx_init :: Failed to bind API (#0, version 0.0) on context driver “d3d”.

If I run it through GDB I get this as well

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault. 0x0000000000000000 in ?? ()

I have downloaded the 1.2.2 build again and extracted it to a new location and ran the exe with the same result. I also tried deleting the .cfg file and installing directx_jun2010 redist. The program still crashes right away…

any thoughts would be much appreciated.

i was accessing this system via an rdp session and thats what was causing the error…once i was physically in front of the box the issue went away.

Ah, yeah, it doesn’t work over RDP. Thanks for posting your solution
