Does any version work with iPad 1 (5.1.1)?

I’ve spent hours trying to figure this out today and I’m just not having any luck.

The only available repos that I could find are http://themaister.net/cydia and http://cydia.zodttd.com/repo/cydia and they are both hosting v1.0.0.1 which won’t launch after being installed (screen flashes black then goes back to springboard). I spent a considerable amount of time learning how to create .deb packages so that I could try both the stable v1.0.0.2 and the latest nightly that are hosted in the buildbot download section and those do the same thing. I also tried restoring my iPad and rejailbreaking it with both Absinthe and RedSn0w and that didn’t make a difference either.

Surely at some point there was a version that worked with a jailbroken iPad 1 running 5.1.1? If there’s somewhere that’s hosting versions prior to v1.0.0.1 please let me know, thanks.

UPDATE:

Finally found the solution elsewhere on the forum: http://libretro.com/forums/showthread.php?t=978&p=10959&viewfull=1#post10959

It appears v0.9.9.6 is one of the last known working versions for the original iPad.

Hey nice find… glad you found a solution to your own problem. :3

Thanks! Unfortunately after all that time I spent trying to get RetroArch working on my iPad 1 I found that the emulation speed slows down any time I enable overlay controls, which causes the audio to crackle. The speed is fine for the cores I’m using (NES, Genesis, SNES, FBA) if it’s disabled, but then I can’t control anything.

In the end I just grabbed Snes9x EX off the BigBoss repo and that works great. I’ll likely need to find alternative emulators for the other consoles I wanted to emulate as well.

I decided to try every single overlay that comes with v0.9.9.6 and found that basic_overlay_portrait.cfg is the only overlay that doesn’t slow down the emulation speed. After looking at the .cfg for this particular overlay it’s because overlay0_rect is limiting how much of the screen the overlay image is being stretched to, so I’m assuming iPad 1 is suffering a performance hit with overlays that are being scaled to the entire screen size.

I know that later versions of RetroArch made a lot of optimizations in regards to overlays, but unfortunately those versions won’t run on iPad 1, but now that I know why overlays are causing a performance hit I can begin to edit some of them for my own use.

Sorry for making posts then answering my own questions, I should probably spend more time troubleshooting before asking for help!
