Does DS4Windows play nice if you also have Steam installed?

I use a Dualshock4, VIA Bluetooth, for almost everything. I haven’t tried Steam on my emulation box yet. DS4W is working so well i don’t wana mess it up, heh.

But i’d like to play Hollow Knight…

Also does Steam only give DS4 support if you run the app through Steam or is it system wide when Steam is running and just sitting in the task bar?

Cheers

I’m not sure if it’s enabled by default in new installs, but you can uncheck controller support in Steam’s settings if you don’t want it meddling with things. When I was using it to make my Switch Pro controller work wired, I had to enable support for it and launch non-Steam apps through it with non-Steam shortcuts. It needed the overlay enabled as well.

If you’re gonna use Steam on a system with DS4Windows installed, you’ll have problems out of the box.

Steam is one of the applications which recognizes the DS4, causing problems for DS4Windows to enable the “Hide DS4” feature (which hides the DS4 for all other applications), it does not matter if you disable DS4 support on Steam options.

To solve it, you can enable HidGuardian (which is a new concept of software, some type of device firewall) which enables DS4Windows to be the only app to have access to the DS4, being it completely invisible for other software. I’m using DS4Windows with HidGuardian and works very well, the definitive solution for using DS4 on PC, with Steam and all other software installed.

By the way, be sure to be using the the updated Ryochan7’s fork of DS4Windows:

The original DS4Windows (which Google defaults to when searching) is years outdated. Ryochan7’s fork is the way to go. On its webpage, you’ll find a complete guide to setup DS4Windows with HidGuardian:

Thanks guys. I think i have HidGuardian installed already. I’ll have to double check. I remember when i first started using DS4W RetroArch would see both a 360 and a Sony controller. EDIT: Even if i used the hide setting.

Cheers
