DOSBox Pure sound cracking and popping

Hello.

Thanks for reading my topic.

Here Ubuntu 24.04.1 AMD FX 6300 GT640 and Retroarch 1.21 DOSBox Pure current version 09-05-2025.

In some simple games ( Dangerous Dave 2) the happen cracking and popping in the sound for few seconds if not has any sound output and in next sound happen that issue again. Retroarch and DOSBox using default settings and cpu power profile in performance mode. Strangely in some moments that core run below of 100 % speed even not using totally the cpu core and when using hotkey fast forward the game run above 400 %.

Any information to fix it ?

Have an nice day.

I think if you set performance to “auto” it messes up everything. I noticed something similar some time ago (i7-7700) so i switched to “386 slow” or something.

The solution is select \ Emulation \ Advanced Input Latency \ to > irregular latency

Sound cracking and popping fixed.

Try Different Video Plug In as I had some Problems with Vulkan when playing Master of Orion 2 on Windows 10 PC

Where is this option?

Core Options \ Emulation \

I have no idea where that option is.

I don’t have that option here neither. Maybe it’s a different core version OP is using.

They don’t have that option either, Not even in Retroarch. Maybe it’s an old core, but… It’s a complete mystery. :flushed:

If the topic is about DOSBox Pure possibly is the current version not is ? The setting is in Core Options \ Emulation
Advanced Input Latency \ to > irregular latency

If you not understand it not try change the settings.

Augusto, this option does not exist in the current core.

That option was removed in current version.

I use DOSBox Pure version 0.9.9.

Current version is 1.0 preview 2 and was removed the menu option emulation.

The sound issue happen in current version and not has any option to fix it.

I have created an topic in libretro dosbox core github about that issue.

Please not have wrong understand about my reply.

Having an good input delay is really good, but Retroarch try to do it at extreme level above of enough.

DOSBOX option Advanced Input Latency selecting irregular latency does input instantaneously without any noticed delay.

Why removed that option ? Not sense.

I recommend to you download the an core pack file of date 04-20-2025 to 05-07-2025 in link below before the core good version having an option to fix that issue to be removed from servers.
