DosBox - Super Slow?

I finally got around to trying to setup the DosBox core in RA.

So, I got DOOM to boot up (delighted to see a full DOS-prompt boot sequence btw, that really drives this whole thing home I tell ya! )

Anyway, the game runs at a snails pace. Even navigating the menus is harder than playing level 30 on Nightmare…

Is this normal behavior, or am I missing some setting here that will ‘magically’ fix the speed issue?

Really looking forward to experiencing old-school doom with a VGA shader.

Change the cycles to 20000,it is 1000 by default.(1000 is “real mode” speed, this is for games that ran on an 8088 that had no real time clock or timers,so the games run as fast as the computer can make them run.(Doom is not one of those games.))

How do I do that? Is it in core options or something?

Select Options in the menu. You’ll see it there.

Thanks guys! That totally worked, Now I’ve got Vanilla DOOM up and running with a sweet old-school computer monitor look to it.

Takes me back to playing with my dad as a kid… God I love emulation hahaha.
