Doubts about the "save remaps per gamepad" feature

So I am recreating all my core and content directory remaps with this option enabled now as I want to setup the various controllers I have

I started with my main controller which is a PS5 Dualsense.

Behaviour is identical for all cores, a remap file will be correctly created under the “core name”/"PS5 Controller (Dualsense)” folder, but it doesn’t apply when I start a game, checking the active remap file it says N/A under the controls menu in the quick menu.

Moving the created remap file to the core folder makes it work, or also manually loading the file from the quick menu. Obviously I’d like this to be automatic according to the controller used.

Am I doing something wrong? Is this working as designed ? Or is something not working?

Retroarch 1.22.2, windows 11 ltsc, and using LaunchBox as front-end if that matters.
