[Download] RetroArch 1.7.7 + other emulators (iOS)

OMG it finally worked. I had to do it manually and unzip it, but I finally got that Rick game demo going, lol. I don’t know why the internal downloaded and installer don’t work. This is a little more of a hassle, but I can manage. I want to play some PS1 roms, do I have to copy and paste the bios somewhere? Or are they preloaded with your Cydia/Sileo build?

Never mind it’s working!!! Thank you soooo much 2 weeks later. I liked Provenance and it’s layout, but anytime I connected my Xbox One Controller with NControl and launched a PS1 game it would just crash the app. I could play N64, Sega, SNES, with the control, no problems. I could also play PS1 roms with the touch screen controls no problem, but for some reason it didn’t like the PS1 with NControl connected with a wireless, I tried it with my Switch’s JoyCons and it was the same, instant crash, but now I got it going and playing some Resident Evil Director’s Cut, woot woot. Thanks again “bud”dy, haha

Just thinking thats the answer what would most likely happen if get a third atv4k and have success with the jailbreak and then buy ncontrol. The app would crash again with controller connected :face_with_raised_eyebrow:. Also the l3 and r3 buttons do not work with ncontrol.

@FlashyLatin I’m glad it’s finally working for you! I think you’d have much better luck with the Unc0ver jailbreak, but as you’re on an XS Max, you have to stick with Chimera… Oh well… Nice anyway!

@AlexManCH That’s one of the reasons I’m looking forward to a iOS 13 jailbreak (with it’s DS4 and Xbox One controller full support), as L3, R3 and select buttons are not in the MFI controllers certification…

When I heard the JB was available my first instinct was UnCover, but no luck, I had to JB some how and Chimera was my next option. I’ll deal with it for now, even though some hacks don’t work and it can be frustrating.

But Question I tried installing a N64 core from another source (didn’t see one listed in your build bot. The one I’m trying to get is Mupen64, but after I extract it, it shows up as an exec file and when I put it into the folder with the other cores RetroArch doesn’t read it, I even renamed it to end with “_ios.dylib” and RetroArch saw it then, but still didn’t load it. How or where can I get a N64 core? Or what do you need to do to set it up?

@FlashyLatin RetroArch still doesn’t have a 64-bit compatible N64 core, the one you downloaded has a newer version on my 32-bit compatible buildbots, but you couldn’t use it neither anyway…

Provenance has a N64 core, but from my own testing on 12.1.2 (I don’t know about 12.0.1…) the N64 core doesn’t appear in the app when installed from the repo if jailbroken with Chimera…

If you try it and no N64 core show up, you’d have to use the .ipa version from my website…

No worries, I have a Provenance version that handles N64 roms. I just didn’t want to go back and forth between emulators, but if that’s my only option then it’s cool, beggars can’t be choosers lol. I just wanted an emulator that would handle playing PS1 ROMS wirelessly, and RetroArch did it for me. Thanks again for your time and attention.

Last question (I hope).

Do MFI controls work better than NControl with Xbox, PS4, or Switch controls? I ask because the button mapping is whack for the PS1. What’s supposed to be the “square” button acts as “start” and I even custom binded it and i can’t get the “triangle” button to work to save my life. I just want to know if it’s worth purchasing a MFI control since I don’t own one. Thanks again

@FlashyLatin I ended up buying 2 Steelseries Nimbus MFI controllers, and they are correctly mapped for every supported official games, and every emulator I tried…

I don’t know if it’s worth it now that iOS 13 will support PS4/Xbox One controllers out of the box, and exploits for iOS 13 have already been discovered — but it could be a long wait before those are actually released publicly, let alone made into a public jailbreak tool…

But if money isn’t a problem, they work damn fine for everything I tried them with !

Sweet, that won’t be an issue. I just didn’t want to buy something with the same outcome of not being able to play these games properly. Appreciate ya! Have a good weekend.

Thanks for posting this! I was able to jailbreak my device recently so now I can use the latest version of RetroArch!

Question: I had to use PPSSPP for PSP roms, and I downloaded the Desmu from another build bot, but just like the N64 it downloads like an “exe” file and it doesn’t play DS roms. Is there a way to get RetroArch to play PSP, DS, GameCube, DreamCast Roms? I may be pushing it, but I’ll ask for PS2 and Xbox original roms as well. If you could let me know what’s compatible for my type of mobile device I would appreciate it. I can run them on my PC no problem, but it’d nice on mobile.

@FlashyLatin For RetroArch, you won’t find any iOS cores newer than on my buildbot… Unless you compile them yourself, but my versions are 2 weeks old at most !

There is DeSmuME on the iOS 11+ buildbot, so you can use that for the Nintendo DS emulation…

For PSP, PPSSPP standalone is your best option as it’s not compilable right now as a RetroArch core, and the standalone supports the very fast and efficient JIT recompiler, thing that RetroArch doesn’t support on iOS since Apple moved to 64-bit only…

GameCube is in development for Android but hasn’t seen much progress on iOS for about 2 years now, and Dreamcast is in development as a Provenance core right now, but isn’t quite ready for prime time yet…

PS2 has a core for RetroArch (Play!) but I would love to have instructions to compile it for iOS, as it’s a relatively new core and not yet on the official libretro-super platform for easy compilation…

As for the OG Xbox, it’s not yet emulated well even on computers, since the way the first emulator was coded assumed that would be an easy task to do on Windows just linking instructions from the games to the Windows and DirectX api’s, but managed to be way harder to emulate that way while achieving good compatibility, it’s pretty much being started over right now… You won’t see this on an iOS device anytime soon!

@Weedy_Weed_Smoker hey I’m looking forward to the Tic-80 core on iOS - windows core here - to add a bit of creativity to the RetroArch suite… but I don’t see it in the ‘official’ iOS buildbot: has yours gotten to it yet and were there any issues?

@Weedy_Weed_Smoker updates soon ?

i would try to compile them for myself if i had a mac but i do not and a mac os vm is really too slow XD

@QcSamuel I’ve been a little busy lately, I’ll try to push updates by the end of the week, if possible…

Which core updates are you looking forward to ? I may be able to push an update for the app and core(s) you’d like to see an update for first!

@QcSamuel I never tried that, but I’m not sure it would work…

I tried to compile the latest MAME core this week-end but a recent commit made the thing uncompilable…

I’ll be back to France in two days with access to fast unlimited internet again, I’ll try to pinpoint the faulty commit when I arrive there, and update everything !

Sorry for the waiting !

Hello,

For the last few weeks I’ve been playing N64 without any problems on a Provenance build I downloaded from TweakBox, now all of a sudden it started saying that it failed to run an instance of N64 core (I’m using my phone to type this and I can’t type the message or the name of the core verbatim), can you upload the newest version of Provenance to your repo that includes all the cores that are currently compatible? The one that’s currently there doesn’t include the N64 core, nor have I been able to figure out how to manually install cores on a build. I would appreciate it. Also I know the latest build shows 1.5 beta, but I guess there are alternate versions that have a 4 digit number, I think the latest is the 8000’s if I’m not mistaken.

@FlashyLatin That’s a known problem with the Chimera jailbreak… I’m afraid you must use the ipa on my website for the n64 core to appear in the app…
