Hello there, I’ve been trying to run a PS1 game from the emu4ios emulator version of the Retro Arch, I have read the above were it states that you are not affiliated with the site and etc… But I would really love some help with this, as I do not want to jail break my iPad 4 as it has a 3 to 4 year warranty, so I will wait till that is gone, but in the mean time, I am stuck to none jail broken iPad, But yes I would like some help understanding what Failed to load means, I have the bios downloaded, but I have no clue on why it says that. Please help.
No, it’s fine. We understand that people are using it, and we’ll help when we can.
If you’re using PCSX-ReARMed, it’s not going to work because it’s one of the dynarec cores. You can try mednafen-psx, but it’s not likely to run full speed.
Hmm. Yeah, I don’t see it. I think you’re out of luck for the moment. There’s no reason (at least AFAIK) that the Emu4iOS guys couldn’t include that core, and they really should remove the dynarec cores altogether since it’s obviously a source of confusion when they don’t work.
But I do want to play a PS1 game, Cause I’ll be moving, and I don’t have a Laptop at the moment sadly and the iPad is the only portable thing I have out at the moment, but all I just need to know is, can it be done? and How?
Are you sure you’re completely set in stone on not jailbreaking your ipad? The ipad 4 is a very capable device, it’s what I used before I got the Air. Jailbreaking any idevice just opens it up more to be able to do SO MUCH more than what it’s capable of on stock firmware, and the boost in performance in some emulators on a jailbroken device is a big plus. Yes, jailbreaking your idevice does void your warranty; but apple wouldn’t know unless you just walked in one of their apple stores for a repair while your device is STILL jailbroken. If you’re careful with your device, you shouldn’t have anything to worry about. Though, let’s say you did drop your ipad and cracked your screen, then before you take it to the apple store for a repair or a replacement, plug it up to itunes and do a complete firmware restore. You will lose the jailbreak, however, a full restore will restore your device to stock firmware and remove ALL traces of a jailbreak; thus allowing your warranty to remain intact and allow you to get your device repaired or replaced with no worries.
The only other PS1 emulator is psx4all in cydia, though that can’t compete with the PS1 emulator in retroarch and is also only available to jailbroken devices. Like the devs have said, there are just too many limitations on stock firmware that prevents emulators such as retroarch to run poorly compared to the jailbroken counterparts. Your ipad 4 on stock firmware right now is like a person in a very roomy locked jail cell. He has enough room to do a few things, though since he’s locked in a cell, he’s very limited on what he can do; yet he has A LOT of potential. I’m going to name your ipad for you. I just named him Fred. You love Fred don’t you? Then break that sucker out of jail already! lol Jailbreaking is so much easier now than what it used to be like it the early days. Jailbreak your ipad and see how much more potential it has, and not only with emulators but with a lot of other stuff too. Want to be able to see all the internal files in your device and be able to mess with it just like you would a C: drive on a computer? There’s a tweak for that. Want to be able to use a Bluetooth mouse with your ipad? Theres a tweak for that. etc, etc, etc… With just even a few really good tweaks, you can make an ipad more computer-like instead of just a tablet with limited possibilities. Hey give it a try, if it turns out you don’t like it or that you’re worried about messing up something by installing a tweak that you’re not familiar with, then just restore the device in itunes. Then you’ll be back to square one.
True, but I do have something to say about jail breaking, sadly you cannot update it like it does when you get the latest patch for ios, so I will be more than likely stuck with something like ios 7.0.4 if I do jail break, sorry for arguing a little bit, but I can see what you are sort of saying as well.
Ah, no problem. No need to apologize, we’re just letting you know that there is the option available to you to jailbreak if you truly want to play ps1 games on your ipad and experience no issues, unlike the kind you’re experiencing now. You are correct, if your ipad right now is on 7.0.4 and you do jailbreak, then you won’t be able to update to a higher firmware unless you’re willing to lose the jailbreak beforehand. Though just because apple comes out with a new firmware version doesn’t mean you ALWAYS have to update to that firmware. The choice is yours, that’s why the update is not mandatory. Sometimes the updates just contains minor fixes or changes that aren’t always needed, and sometimes it’s just an update to close out the possibility to jailbreak. Just because you can’t update to the newest update that apple releases doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing. I mean, look at older ios devices such as the iphone 3gs and down; ios7 is not even compatible with those devices and those devices are stuck on ios6, ios5, etc…that’s not a bad thing, as long as the firmware is stable and secure, then it’s fine. It’s no different than people who stay on an older operating systems on their computers. Just because there’s windows 8.1 doesn’t mean that people who are still on windows xp or windows 7 have to upgrade to the newest thing available.
What firmware is your ipad 4 actually on? is it on 7.0.4? Is it still on ios 6? If it’s on either of those, and you’re not willing to jailbreak, then why arent you already updated to ios 7.1 which just came out not too long ago? If you’re already on 7.1, then never mind because 7.1 closed out the jailbreak and you can no longer (for now) jailbreak your device if it’s on 7.1.
You can play ps1 using retroarch without jailbreak. If you see this message "failed to load content " go ahead and change the date to 2012 then load content with no problem. Do this once with every core shows the same message. Exactly like what you did when you installed retroarch. Make sure you need to have 4 bios files. Let me know if you need links for the bios or google it “psx bios for retroarch”
