FMV:s stutters in PSX-games

Hi I just started using retro arch and I’ve really fallen in love with it! However, everytime a cut scene or intro scene plays in psx games, both sound and video stutters…I’ve tried every possible setting there is without any luck. Might there be a solution or am I better off waiting for the next build?

Setup:

i5 2500k gtx 570 8 gb ram

Check and see if your framerate is dropping below 60 fps during those cutscenes. If so, check and see if your CPU is running at full speed. Sometimes over-aggressive power-saving settings will detect emulators as lighter-than-actual loads and will clock down to idle speeds.

Also, make sure you’re using NTSC images and not PAL.

On the current mednafen/beetle there is CD image cache option that helped me in some games with cdda tracks… Might help you too

Going into my control panel, power options and changing my power plan from Balanced to High Performance really helps on my 2500k for demanding cores like Mednafen-PSX. If you aren’t having stutters in game also though, it could be you have a bad dump of the game. I noticed stutters in Grandia’s FMVs one time with a bad dump that were gone with a good one.

yeah it does! arround 45-55 during fmv:s changed my powerplan from balanced to performance but didn’t help

you mean in the stand alone version of mednafen? I would really like if you were able to update the cores manually instead of have to wait for next build of retroarch

it stutters during gameplay as well. from time to time anyway…

I have a feeling the issue being more related to audio rather then video…it’s like the “virtual laser” is having a hard time keeping up if you know what I mean.

nice! Will check it out as soon as I get home. is that like a beta build or something? Can you save your old configs when you upgrade to this? The controller settings was a bit rough setting up

It’s just a personal build and yeah your configs should be safe, it’s just Retroarch and the cores

excellent! really excited…unfortunately your link is dead at the moment? do you have another one maybe?

Sorry was having some network issues. Should work now

OMG! it seems to be waaay better than the old mednafen…FFIX seems to run like a dream which is HIGHLY unusual in my experience… wish I could give you like 1000 beers now cause you really made my day! =D =D =D

minor detail: is it still possible to skip the bios (sony logo) sequence?

Nope Ryphecha removed that from mednafen altogether

[/quote] Skipping the BIOS broke at least one game, so it was taken out. I kind of miss it, especially when testing many games in a short period of time. Too bad it’s not like the Saturn or Dreamcast BIOS where you can skip through it quick with Start.

It’s not too bad when playing a single game normally though, and has some nostalgic value.

The other day I upgraded to a SSD drive and by cloning my old hdd with windows on it, everything is the same except the computer is faster. BUT, now pretty much all cores in retroarch have sound issues. In psx games the sound issues sometimes starts already at the sony logo. The sound pops and makes fuzzy noises. How can retroarch perform much worse, with the same settings only a much fast harddrive??

I discovered that the cpu usage maxes at about 10%. Isn’t that a little low?

Not likely an I/O problem. Try a clean config

yeah about that, what’s the best way to install your build? you would still need the regular 1.0.0.0.2 right? I unzipped the regular build to a folder and then unzipped your and replaced all files.

You don’t need to install anything, just unzip, set your paths and go!

I figured out I must have lowered the audio latency…if it’s on 64ms everything works way better shouldn’t you notice an audio delay of 64ms though? sounds like quite a bit
