[GameCube] Language Transfer – Resident Evil 1 PAL to NTSC

Hi everyone,

I own both the PAL and NTSC versions of Resident Evil 1 on GameCube. Since the latest Dolphin update, the PAL version no longer works properly — it gets stuck on a black screen when launching, although it used to work fine before.

So I was wondering if it’s possible to transfer certain files from the PAL version to the NTSC one using GC Rebuilder , in order to get French subtitles on the NTSC version.

I had already done something similar with Zelda Twilight Princess , but I can’t remember exactly how I did it.

If anyone has tried this kind of file swap or knows which files to transfer (language, text, etc.), I’d really appreciate your help!

Thanks in advance :slightly_smiling_face:

Tu veux que je t’aide à le poster sur un forum en particulier ou à ajouter des détails techniques sur GC Rebuilder ?

Before all that, Dolphin Wiki says:

On the PAL version, a black screen may be displayed when starting the game alongside an “Unknown Opcode” error. This is due to GPU timing issues. Refer issue 12321.

Disabling Store XFB copies to Texture Only or enabling Immediately Display XFB Copies fixes the problem.

Try that first.

I’ve already tried those settings, both in the options and by creating an .ini file, but I still get that cursed black screen. Even with standalone Dolphin, I can’t play anymore.

That’s unfortunate. Last chance: have you tried the Wii port? Sometimes, a Gamecube game doesn’t work on Dolphin, but its Wii counterpart does.

Yes, indeed, I think that’s my only option left. All I have to do is find an HD pack and replay the entire first part of the game. Thanks for the advice, it’s appreciated.
