No matter what plugins and settings I use I can never make it past the title screen. The game just lags and crashes.
What operating system are you running on? On windows 8 it seems to work fine with a cached interpreter enabled, expansion ram disabled, high gfx, plugins are auto, and resolution is 640x480. I’m currently watching the intro video.
Running IOS 6.1.3 on iPhone 5. This is the Apple RetroArch forum isn’t it?
I asked him to post here with a link from IRC, so he likely didn’t notice that it was the Apple subforum. Did you try his settings?
This is very true. I didn’t notice the forum. I’m not entirely sure which gpu plugins that mupen64plus offers on the iphone, but glide64 seems to offer the best experience and probably prone to crashing less than the others. Try using that if you haven’t. Be aware though that glide64 is much more demanding, and which is extremely apparent on mobile devices.
I appreciate the feedback. I’ve tried those and similar settings. Using cached_interpreter seemed to improve the lagging significantly. Although the frame rate is still pretty poor. Visually there seems to be alot of artifacting and distorted textures. It’s still hard to make out what’s on screen. It looks like a mass of polygons, but the audio sync is decent. Hell at least it’s progress.
If you would post a screen shot of all of your settings that would be very helpful in diagnosing a problem.
Check your PMs dude.
Better than a screenshot.
Hah! that’s pretty trippy. Change the gln64 plugin to glide64 and change the resolution to the lowest possible. The graphical errors are because of the plugin and the framerate is because of the resolution. I’m not saying that this will make it run buttery smooth which zero issues, but it will help it.
It seems to run slower using Glide64 on low resolutions. Nothing else changes. It’s still polygon hell.
I’d say that currently that is the best your going to get it to run. I’m not entirely sure about the technical issues that may be going on. Also try swapping the plugins again to anything else that is offered. The low resolution will make it run faster though.
It just baffles me that other games like OOT and Banjo Kazooie run nearly perfectly, but this one has such problems for some reason.
Conker and Majora’s Mask are notorious for not emulating well.
I managed to get BFD running at a pretty steady framerate outside of the cutscenes. The graphical glitches seem to be gone as well with the settings I’m using. However, the audio sync still creates a large amount of lag. Is there a way I can improve this or skip past the cutscenes faster? The fast forward rate isn’t quick enough. Leading the emulator to eventually crash. Are there any configurable frame skip options?
