Having very bacis issues while trying to use Retroarch Wii

Hello,

I feel very stressed right now to ask several questions related to this well known and widely used software. I have tried my best to find answers, and I’m pretty sure there are answers out there which I couldn’t find yet I expect several people to “rage&flame” and say “Google it!” instead of pointing out the helpful link. But I think that’s how it happens. I still wish and hope to find a patient member who can bear my questions and direct me to a helpful link… or simply answer them. Let’s try.

I have a softmodded black wii. I have homebrew channel installed on it. I could successfully put the newest “retroarch wii” on my SD card and execute it within homebrew channel. I can play almost all SNES and SEGA GENESIS games by selecting proper core and setting 240p resolution. I can play %60 of CPS1 games I can’t play CPS2 games except a couple of games which I have used on my Sony PSP with cache file/folder. I can’t play any Neo Geo games except 1-2 games

I think emulation compatibility is much more than what I got. I must be doing something wrong !

Maybe these are the reason of my issues:

  1. I am putting all of my games on my SD card. My HDD is WBFS formatted and I couldn’t find a way to put cps1/cps2/neogeo/snes/genesis roms on my wbfs formatted hdd even with wbfs manager.
  2. I only select a core and and resolution for the game, then load the game… Nothing more… Maybe I need to adjust other settings that I dont know
  3. Maybe I need to find ROM files prepared for retroarch… I use whatever I could find… Maybe they’re not proper… or not suitable for retroarch.
  4. Maybe I need to create cache files for all cps2/neogeo roms.
  5. Maybe it’s related to my CIOS.

I could not even run the “captain commando” on cps1… there sould be a problem on my side. However Cadillacs & Dinosaurs, Final Fight works great.

What am I doing wrong? What could it be ?

You can check the FBA Wii compatibility list here: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=1372

If there are compatible games listed that aren’t working for you, it’s likely a problem with the ROM revision. Make sure you use up-to-date ROM images and not just random ones off the internets.

Thank you.

Games that I tried and failed are compatible with the software. It seems my issues are related to my roms. (I hope it’s not related to anything else such as my hardware or custom firmware) Do I need to find retroarch specific roms? (my friend told me to find proper romsets, I couldnt understand what romset means) Do I need to do some extra stuff on “up-to-date” roms as well? (like creating or finding cache files)

I would ask a place look for up-to-date rom files but I’m pretty sure it would be against forum rules. I will eventually find them.

Load up a game that works, then go into the in-game RGUI menu and look at the bottom of the screen and it will have some numbers printed down at the bottom, followed by “FB Alpha v0.2.97.30” or something like that. Search for that ROMset.

Thank you. I have seen CPS2 v0.2.97.28 written at the bottom of the screen. So does it means that I search roms with this number ?

yeah, search for ‘fba 0.2.97.28 romset’ or something like that.

Check your PM.

All SNES and Genesis/Megadrive games work on RA. Your roms must be the issue there aswell. Search for a No Intro romset for both machines.

Thank you for information.

I had 70+ genesis and 60+ snes games. Everything worked except “Mechwarrior 3050” SNES game. And I think it’s known to be bugged. I got the Genesis port of that game anyway

My issue was “not knowing anything related to romsets”. Now, thanks to you guys. I will search and find better roms… and I will have my libary slowly.

My greatest challenge is making Sengoku 3 work on retroarch wii. I tried 5 different roms from different locations… none work yet. it looks like a very big file (42 mb) for wii. However compatibilty list says it’s working and I have also seen a youtube video of it working on wii. I will try and make it work.

I didn’t put any “neogeo.zip” at rom folder… didn’t know that. Maybe this is the reason none of my roms worked so far…

Yep, Sengoku 3 works on RetroArch 1.0.0.2. Download the rom from where I told you via PM

Yes, neogeo.zip should be in the same folder as your roms.

Thank you for sharing that information. That will greatly help me.

I have wasted so much 3g data for these (7xSengoku3) downloads. But, if I can make it work, I’ll feel really good  I hope that I got the correct neogeo.zip as well

Get neogeo.zip from the same place under the letter “N” on the list.

At last! Neo-Geo roms works as intended. My problem was missing the neogeo bios.

Thank you for pointing out many useful knowledge. Now I know the meaning of no-intro and I’ll get those clean roms.
