Help making PPSSPP look better?

I recently started using the PPSSPP core for the PS Classic

However, I found that the quality of the picture was very poor, especially compared to the PPSSPP app

But when I tried to change the internal res, the entire screen turned black

It’s also possible I’m not using the full release PPSSPP PS Classic core, so can someone link me to a download too?

I just tried it on my linux PC (i.e., not a PSC) and it was a little unstable when I was fiddling with options. So, I had to change one thing (e.g., internal res) and then close content so it was saved to the core options file, then reload and change the next thing.
