Help with Adding Boxart

I need help getting RetroArch to display the boxart for Sonic & Knuckles + Sonic the Hedgehog 3 for the Sega Genesis to display.

To prefix, I have gotten all my other games on this system and others to display properly, including manually adding boxart for another game. I’m totally stumped.

  1. This Sonic game never had boxart fetched when using the Online Updater --> Playlist Thumbnails Updater tool.

  2. Next I went to /home/johndoe/.var/app/org.libretro.RetroArch/config/retroarch/playlists and found the playlist name of “Sega - Mega Drive - Genesis.lpl”

  3. Then I checked that it matched the thumbnails folder name and it does. /home/johndoe/.var/app/org.libretro.RetroArch/config/retroarch/thumbnails “Sega - Mega Drive - Genesis”

  4. Within the thumbnails folder I have “Named_Boxarts”, “Named_Snaps”, and “Named_Titles”. I added the boxart .png file to each of those three folders. The boxart .png name matches the ROM file name and the game will successfully launch and play. “Sonic & Knuckles + Sonic The Hedgehog 3 (USA) (Lock-on Combination).png” and “Sonic & Knuckles + Sonic The Hedgehog 3 (USA) (Lock-on Combination).md”

Nothing happens after all of this. The boxart still doesn’t display. This process of where I added the .png files and how I named them matches how I added boxart for another game, albiet for another system (PSX), and the boxart loaded immediately without needing to refresh anything.

Did you do a brief search? this has been discussed several times in the forum. even the documentation talks about this.

some special characters such as &, are changed to _

Sonic _ Knuckles + Sonic The Hedgehog 3 (USA) (Lock-on Combination).png

An easy way to add thumbnails, open the Show Desktop Menu, in the corresponding tab drag the image to create the thumbnail.

I did do a search, that’s how I got as far as I did. Thank you for still informing me about the special character change. I’ll mess around with it.
