Help with PC Engine roms

Hello! I’m having trouble running PC Engine CD roms, I just can’t load any games: the game is recognized by the emulator, appears in the playlist, but all that appears is a black screen. I have the BIOS. What’s worse is that when I try to run Mednafen ROMs outside of Retroarch, the ROMs run perfectly. I just tried everything, but I can’t understand why it doesn’t work. Could someone help me please?

Where did you put the Bios and What is the Bios File Called?

I put the BIOS in the “system” directory (sycard1.pce, sycard2.pce and sycard3.pce, that last one with the correct MD5) and in the rom directory. Core info menu shows that the BIOS has been recognized by the emulator.

I don’t see any errors in your logs. Make sure you have logging levels set to the max, for this go to Settings > Logging and set those Logging Levels to 3 (Error).

Usually C: on a windows system requires higher privileges, so maybe it is a permission problem.
From the docs:

If you pick the 7z archive package, extract it in a folder that doesn’t require administrator permissions such as C:\Users\yourusername\RetroArch . Don’t extract it to Program Files or your Windows folder.

Are other cores/games running without problems?

Sorry about my stupidity, but I am not finding the option Logging Levels … :man_facepalming:

EDIT: Oh, you mean you don’t see Logging options at all? maybe they are hidden: Go to Settings > User Interface > Show Advanced Settings and make sure it’s ON

Now I did it, thanks! But now the log is blank :confused:

Try logging level 0 (Debug).

Another thing you can do is starting the game without game/core/content overrides.
(Back up your config/Beetle PCE Fast/ folder and then delete it)

If this doesn’t work you can always try with a complete fresh configuration, by deleting your retroarch.cfg in the main RetroArch folder.
(Remember to always make a backup :wink: )

I tried to delete the files, but it still didn’t work … I’m running out of options :confused:

Are you loading a zip? Unzip the contents somewhere and load the .cue or .ccd.
