How do I dosbox?

I’m looking into getting some dos games working. I choose dosbox core, and it immediately drops me out to a command prompt. I guess I’m wanting to navigate around here and install some games at this point, but running into problems.

I can’t get any special characters working, even important stuff like backslash, colon, period, or colon. Pressing ctrl+f1 to activate keymapper isn’t doing anything. Typing ‘intro’ looks like it wants to run something, but appears to hang. It goes to the next line, but stops there. Ctrl+C doesn’t kill it.

I’m looking around on the Internet and not finding much. How do I get started here?

I would suggest looking at some basic youtube videos on how dosbox works. Then you can create config files for the games you want to run. Then load the config files after you select the dosbox core and it’s almost like an autoexec file. That config will load the game once you manually enter the data.
