How to download a core? 1.22.2

I have PPA testing on Ubuntu LTS. I updated and removed the entire /.config/retroarch folder to create a clean installation. I don’t have the option to download the kernel. The download option does not appear.

I can’t see the title bar in Wayland either. And the directories are very messy.

This is the default option.

right, the assumption with package manager installations is that you’ll use the package manager for cores, too.

I think that’s going to be painful.

If I try to install everything from the terminal libretro-*, some packages (such as fba and fbalpha) conflict.
I reinstall Gnome software, which has a submenu for installing add-ons, but it doesn’t work because flatpak/falthub is blocked in my country. I use a VPN, and the option submenus is no longer available.
I don’t use Snap. too many programs consuming resources just to install programs

In any case, the cores I use are outdated and cannot be installed. Sorry for the Spanish spam:
“Los siguientes paquetes tienen dependencias incumplidas: libretro-mame : Depende: libflac14 (>= 1.5.0) pero no es instalable E: No se pudieron corregir los problemas, usted ha retenido paquetes rotos.”
Or, they are not DB-Pure.

:confused:

To activate the download, is that option in the interface? ‘show core update’

PS: I had the stable ppa activated and hadn’t noticed it; in the stable version there are about 4 cores. lol

It doesn’t matter. In Reset to Defaults Configuration File, the option and the previous directories appear.

If I try to install everything from the terminal libretro-*, some packages (such as fba and fbalpha) conflict.

You don’t have to. I install RetroArch with package manager, but changed the configuration to point to the directories in .config/retroarch. This way the cores directory is under user control and not managed by package manager. I don’t install cores with package manager and only use the updater from RetroArch.

The problem is that “Download to Core” is not enabled, even if the directory is modified.

The only way to activate it again is to select “Reset to Defaults” in Configuration File.

Doesn’t it appear if you change the setting menu_show_core_updater = true? You also need to change the directory for Cores where your personal directory is from /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libretro/ to in example ~/.config/retroarch/cores/. Make sure that directory exists. Or any other where you have write permission without root access. Same for the Core Info files BTW and all other directories.

Yes, but it only appears in Online Update. Not in Load Core.
If I select Reset to Defaults, it appears on both sides and also restores the directories.

Maybe there is another option required. An idea is to have the default one and the modified version of .cfg files and then do a diff command to see what is changed. And then try to guess which option is responsible. That’s the only idea I have right now. Here is an example command: diff --side-by-side --suppress-common-lines ~/.config/retroarch/retroarch.cfg ~/.config/retroarch/retroarch.cfg_backup .

On the right side the of the command output a < means its removed I think and > means a line / option is added and | means, the line has changed.

This is great. I already found the line to view downloads in Load Core.
The menu itself says, “Directory Not Found.” When you change the directory, the download option appears. THK!

menu_show_core_updater = “true”
libretro_directory = “/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libretro/”

Testing doesn’t work, it does strange things. I have to go back to Stable, but the list of cores is very limited. I’ll have to use the manual option or try again with appimage. Having to exit the program to install a core is very awkward.
