How to enable cheats?

Hi, I’ve tried enabling cheats on the Genplus GX, Snes9x, and Nestopia cores to no avail.

Here is what I have tried so far:

  1. Downloaded the cheat database from the online updater
  2. Loaded a core
  3. Loaded content for that core
  4. Opened the quick menu and loaded the cheat file for that game by navigating to the relevant system folder in the cheat database
  5. Turned on a cheat
  6. Hit “Apply Cheat Changes”
  7. Resumed content

Result: no cheats have applied, in this case, infinite lives in SMB2 on NES. I have also tried restarting the content after a cheat file is applied, same thing.

What am I doing wrong here please?

Hmm. Works fine here. I just went through your steps with Mega Man 2 via Nestopia and it worked fine for the power jump and infinite energy (the only ones I tried).

I know not all cheats work with all cores, so maybe try those same cheats with FCEUmm?

Nope. Downloaded FCEUmm core and same thing. Also, I don’t see those cheats you listed above for Mega Man 2 in the current cheat database I downloaded from the online updater.
