How to Use Analog Triggers

I am using the Dreamcast emulator lr-reicast on Lubuntu 16.04 x64 with latest github code and I am trying to get analog triggers to work on my Xbox 360 Wireless pad (udev joypad driver with xpad driver).

I tried to find out by reading the source code about how to enable analog triggers and to me it seems as Retroarch does not support analog inputs at all besides the left and right analog sticks:

Also lr-reicast seems to know that and maps L1 to a half-pressed and L2 to a full-pressed analog trigger. When I press my normally mapped right trigger then for example in Crazy Taxi I only get very low driving speed.

So am I right that analog triggers are generally not supported or did I miss something maybe?
