I-PAC 2 joystick not working with Final Burn Alpha core

I just built a custom arcade stick which interfaces to my PC with the I-PAC 2. I’ve got the joystick and main buttons mapped in the I-PAC 2 firmware to the default Player 1 input settings in RetroArch.

Using the latest MAME core, I’m able to play all my arcade games and the arcade stick works well. However, the Final Burn Alpha core doesn’t take any input from the joystick. I’m able to enter the menu and set the joystick as my input for up/down/left/right, but nothing happens in game.

Can anyone please advise?

I got things working by changing the I-PAC 2 firmware to one that supports gamepad input, and mapping the I-PAC 2 joystick as a gamepad joystick. Still not sure why FBA didn’t recognize the keyboard inputs from the joystick, though.
