Increasing clock speed of GG emulation

I’ve been experimenting with some GG games via Genesis Plus GX as I was always curious about the system back in the day but never got to try a real one. Warning: I am about to ask a really blasphemous question, so please don’t pelt me with cans: I have been playing some Sonic games and find the slowdown to be so horrendously bad as to render them basically unplayable. This isn’t an emulator problem, I’m sure it’s capturing the slowdown very accurately. While I normally like my emulation to be as accurate as possible, the slowdown is so bad that I now ask my shameful question: is there a way to speed up the clock in the emulator so that it can better deal with the slowdown without speeding up the entire game itself? I imagine not as I’m sure the game is based on the existing clock speed of the GG but just wanted to check. Apologies to accurate emulation purists everywhere…

You would have to overclock the Z80 CPU and, unfortunately, I don’t see any simple “dial” for it like the MUL macro for the MD’s X68k CPU. I was hoping there would be something easy to change and then recompile.

And is this also true for Picodrive?
