iPad mini 1 - Retroarch version - ios8 vs ios6

Hi all,

I have come across a bunch of old iPad Mini 1s and want to turn them into gaming handhelds as gifts. I’ve done some research but wanted to confirm a few things:

  • which Retroarch (RA) version is recommended as the most stable: My options are:

RA 1.0.0.1 - would need to downgrade to ios6 I believe RA 1.9.0 - would need to downgrade to ios8 RA 1.13.0 - found from adding this repo to cydia (not sure which ios version its made for): http://johan.margueritte.free.fr/repo

I want to add a controller to the device also, at the moment I was thinking of using a lightning to usb connector and plugging in a usb keyboard - as I hope this will give me control over iPad functions (home screen, volume control, lockscreen).

Would also need help on mapping this as a controller in RA. I am relatively new to jailbreaking etc, but believe I have successfully jailbroken and downgraded my iPad mini 1 to ios8.4.1. So that’s where I’m at:

Hey man, not sure if you’ve seen this: It’ll just be really basic stuff I’ll be asking:

  • which Retroarch version is recommended for stability - 1.0.0.1 vs 1.9.0 vs 1.13.0
  • can I install different menu theme
  • how can I setup a controller
