Iphone 4 7.1.2 RA 1.0.0.2.1

Can’t seem to get the correct audio/video settings for each core to run smoothly. Any suggestions on what to do in the settings to get it to run a little better on my iphone 4? Will an older version of retroarch help me? Performance improvements in the next release? Thanks

Mainly using snes, game gear, advance, genesis

SNES and GBA, at least, are pretty heavy cores. I don’t have any iDevices, but I think people reported needing 4S or higher to get reliably 60 fps on those cores.

Yah figured the old phone had a little to do with it. Thanks While i here, how do I get mame Roms to work? Only simpsons works for me so far. Metal slug and most others have error unable to play.

the biggest culprit is usually just matching the right romset for the mame version. Retroarch has several mame cores available and each uses a different set. mame 2003 uses the 078 romset, 2010 uses 139 and 2014 uses the current set.

Is there any way to find out what romset you have and to use the corresponding mame version? Also, most of the time it only gives the option of mame 2003 and “FBA”. In fact those are the only arcade cores. Is mame 2010 supposed to be on the ios app?

Well let me tell you that before i had an iPhone 5 i had an iPodTouch 4G that has i guess the same power as the iPhone 4. And i used to play GBA and SNES games on it at full speed. But i used GBA.emu and SNESX9. That are avaiable on Cydia. Try em out and check what is the problem. Maybe is RetroArch.

Those both use frameskip and, IIRC, that snes9x app is based on a super-old version that was faster at the expense of some significant accuracy issues. RetroArch doesn’t use frameskip (unless it’s implemented via the core itself via a core option) and uses up-to-date snes9x code (the snes9x-next variant is slightly faster and slightly less accurate due to some hand-picked speedhacks).

On super-low-power devices (like raspberry pi), I think you can get pocketsnes (i.e., ancient s9x) and gpsp (buggy but fast GBA emu) via RetroArch, but I don’t have any experience with either of them.
