Is documentation pointless?

Most of my free time is spent attempting to provide or highlight good documentation in one way or another.

I ask myself the above question most days.

So comments are welcome…

Is it needed? Does it help? Do you read it? Is there something you want documemtation on? Is it a waste of time?

I used to write documentation, as well, but I stopped because it was obsolete by the time I finished writing it. That’s not as true today as it was then, but there’s still an element of that and it makes it a frustrating task.

It’s also hard to see the same questions get asked over and over, despite the docs. No one wants to search for an answer, they want it delivered to them.

Anyway, I/we do appreciate it, but if you get sick of doing it, no one is going to fault you for it.

I still believe in documentation but yes the keeping consistant updates going is hard when things move so fast and keep changing.

Personally I think it should be shoved in peoples faces, but only if it is good enough to not leave questions.

Feel free to link to your docs whenever you can to answer questions, since you already know where the answers are. Once you post one, I’ll try to post it, too
