Sorry, looked fine when I pasted it.
There it is. No idea how that is even possible, but you are using/forcing d3d11, which the core can’t use since it wants either gl or vulkan depending on the RDP renderer.
[INFO] Requesting OpenGL context.
[ERROR] [Environ]: SET_HW_RENDER: Dynamic verify HW context failed.
[libretro ERROR] mupen64plus: libretro frontend doesn’t have OpenGL support.
By default cores are allowed to change the video driver, so either you have disabled that or something serious is going on, since “not having opengl support” with modern hardware is rather impossible.
Focusing on mupen64plus, changed the driver to vulkan, now this does the white window and aborts

Something wrong with the OS drivers then. I’m using a regular GTX 970 no problemo.
And indeed simply changing the video driver in RA does not change the used HW driver in the core. It is still requesting gl, since it is the default in the core:
[INFO] [Environ]: SET_HW_RENDER, context type: gl.
[INFO] Requesting OpenGL context.
[ERROR] [Environ]: SET_HW_RENDER: Dynamic verify HW context failed.
[libretro ERROR] mupen64plus: libretro frontend doesn’t have OpenGL support.
I installed the latest NVIDIA GeoForce driver and the problem still occurs.
Other cores play fine: TurboGraphix PC Engine, GameCube Dolphin (just played 4 minutes of Zelda The Wind Waker.
I also have Blizzard Games, Origin/EA Games and Steam without issue. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you!
All I can think of is getting RA to run with glcore first, so that editing the core option file manually to not use gl is not necessary.
Pretty sure you will have issues with other HW cores too, like Beetle PSX HW and Flycast. Software cores of course don’t care about the video driver.
Downloaded an utility to report OpenGL version from this site:
How-to-verify-the-supported-OpenGL-versions-of-the-graphics-card
Here are the versions it reported:
SO I hope this info will help RA with next steps. Thank you!
did you check to see if settings > core > allow cores to change the video driver is ENABLED?
Hi hunter… I was just wondering, out of curiosity, if there was a reason to have this as an option? I have seen that having it disabled causes problems, but is there a time when it is necessary to block the core from changing the driver? I’m sure there’s a good reason for it that I just don’t know about.
Just if you want to force it to use a specific driver instead of the one it wants to use by default. Many hardware-rendered cores support more than one renderer, but a person’s hardware may work better with one vs another (AMD’s notoriously poor OpenGL performance in Windows is a good example), and not all cores have explicit settings for choosing among them.
What exactly is the RA version that is installed? Not version number, but platform. Perhaps you picked a wrong Windows one that does not have opengl enabled.
Understood… thanks for the info.
I got the video working, had core change video to off. Up/down stick id reversed.
I am running Windows 10 Pro 64 bit,
Hi! I am also having trouble with N64 emulation. Mupen closes with “unable to load content”.
How can I get a log file?
See this page from our documentation site: https://docs.libretro.com/guides/generating-retroarch-logs/
Once you get a log, you can either paste it here inside codeblocks (the button that looks like this: </>) or post the contents somewhere like pastebin.com and then post a link here for us to view.
Thank you.
I randomly tried setting “Force GLES3”. It launched after that but it was very glitchy. I’ll see what the logs say.
I’m continually getting crashes to desktop in “DK 64” lately, and it’s driving me mad. Log files of my previous three sessions will be attached.

Hello. I just got a new Pi5 and Installed Lakka 5.0 on it. My problem is that when I try to use the “mupen64plus” core I get the following problem in the log: </> [ERROR] [Environ]: GET_VARIABLE: mupen64plus-MultiSampling - Invalid value. [ERROR] [Environ]: GET_VARIABLE: mupen64plus-EnableN64DepthCompare - Invalid value. [ERROR] [Environ]: GET_VARIABLE: mupen64plus-EnableShadersStorage - Invalid value. </> I was using the same core in my PI4 with no issues. My “Mupen64Plus-Next.opt” file didn’t have the “EnableN64DepthCompare” or the "EnableShadersStorage " values and the “MultiSampling” values was “0” Can anyone help? Thanks
