Legend of the River King GBC Codes not Working

I use them in Retroarch but the codes only make the Infinite Stuff only go to 255 and that also goes down when I spend the Money

Got cheats in Cheat Database.

Tried all GBC Cores

Works with GB Rom but not GBC Rom.

How do I get them to work?

20. Game Shark Codes-

Here are all the Game Shark codes I could find. I now have Game Shark and I’ll tell you which ones I have got to work.

Infinite Health (works): 01FF25D2

Infinite Gold (works): 01FF29D2

All Fish: 01FF26D2

Fun Lake: 01FF27D2 01FF28D2

NOTE: This exactly what the Game Software Creators Club has said. Exactly what they said.

             You have to have a 2.1 Cheat Device

First or higher to use your Cheat Device Off: with the GameBoy Color system. The codes are the same for each GameBoy unit. Whether it’s the normal Second: GameBoy, the Pocket GameBoy, or the GameBoy Color unit, the codes on our site work if you have 2.1 or higher version GameBoy Cheat Device. There is NO way to use codes for a Finally: GameBoy Color unit if you don’t have 2.1 Cheat Device! NO WAY!!

So needing a Cheat Device that is 2.1 would stop the Codes Working?
