Libretro - Wii test builds

I was impatient to expect next release on Wii, then I decided to compile by myself -with help of hunterk and mackal- but it comes with a price: has issues on it and I don’t have enough skills to solve them.

Anyway you can try this out, find out by yourselves.

Known issues: -On aplication starts it’ doesn’t load last core config file

Something cool about next release, it’s that VBA-Next has nearly full speed in many games like Squarepusher and Maister have said and per core config file is also available, you can test it too

Remember: They’re Test builds and expect bugs.

This is good. Thanks for sharing your build. I know the Wii users are hungry for a new release and this will ensure that as many bugs are found prior to the official release as possible.

Threaded video should not be used on the Wii. It’s unnecessary on the Wii and leads to video skipping.

I will look into the crash though.

hi.

would it be possible for you do compile another version of the retroarch wii based on the latest changes. I believe there’s been a fix added for the gc controller issue.

thankyou in advance.

Sure, no problem I’ve just cheked source code with new fix, give me some minutes to upload.

But I’ve found an issue … when trying so select in Path Options -> Config Dirs, it’s throws an error.

Anyway, expect other bugs, this builds are just for testing.

Can you do debug builds and trace where the program crashes? That would help in fixing them.

I’m going to be busy for a little bit longer, but next week at latest I should be back to working on the Wii port.

I think I can do that, where can I send the results? here or github?

is it the same link from the 1st post for the new build?

Updated to lastest commits

Known issues: -A controller must be plugged, default controller: gamecube

This should be fixed now. It also has ‘Input autodetect’ enabled by default now. If you want the old behavior back, you can set it to ‘OFF’.

Making an issue on Github would work the best.

downloaded the that new build. sorted out the gc controller issue i was having

im still unable to load games from a USB drive though. only off SD. i can read the the USB drive, and navigate to a rom, but once i select it just freezes and i have to hold the power for 5 seconds on the wii to restart it.

Check your USB drive, I actually load my games from USB, I have no issue with any of them.

it loads other things fine. wii games etc. I only just reformatted it.

the roms themselves are alright too as I can load the identical ones off the sd or on my pc.

maybe Im missing some ios or something? not sure if there are any specific required. although as I said wii games load fine.

Are your roms unzipped? Only FBA roms can be zipped in Wii, I’m not totally sure, but to load a snes rom it needs to be unzipped, yougame.smc or something like that.

yes unzipped. .smc extensions for snes.

Great news, the Wii is still alive  What about psx emulation? Any news?

The Wii is too weaksauce for good, proper PS1 emulation. WiiSX is based on PCSX last I checked, and it doesn’t have very good compatibility. They’d probably have to create a core based on current PCSX-Reloaded code to achieve nice compatibility, but I doubt it would run at more than half speed, even with a PPC dynarec. It just isn’t worth it.

@mameshane, check your USB is fat32 format, I use a 8GB usb flash drive in 32KB clustersize, I don’t know if this matters.

Anyways, new test build to check.

Fixed: In Video Option -> Threaded option not needed on Wii In Path Settings -> Config Directory, selecting a directory no more crashes

Does this mean there are per core directory configs?
