No, it has to be synced with upstream in the code. Luckily, only a handful of ROMs change between each point version, so a .152 set should work just fine with .151 except for those few ROMs that have changed.
If you are using MAME (current) it seems like they update pretty shortly after the actual MAME update… maybe a few days. Just hang tight… mine is also at .251 and everyone else as well. Like Hunter said, you will be able to play it and not notice any difference until they update.
