MAME core takes forever to load roms

Not sure when this started happening but I think I noticed it first in 1.4.1b but it takes over a minute for the MAME core to load a MAME rom. All other systems such as gx4000 and a5200 work great, loads roms quickly, its just MAME roms. I tried using a vanilla install of 1.5.0, no MAME extras, configs, default core options, etc. No difference. The only possible variable that is left is that I store my roms on a NAS but I will test that shortly but I have never had an issue with that.

Any ideas? Has anyone seen this?

If they’re stored on a NAS, they have to be streamed over, which can take a while, yeah.

I store mine on a NAS as well and this is what I noticed here.

  • On my main desktop, connected with gigabit ethernet, roms load fine (RA 1.5.0, Mame 2014 0.159)
  • On my rasp3, connected with 100mb ethernet, roms take a while to load (especially those bigger neogeo roms) (running christmas Lakka)
