Mednafen PSX not saving [Ubuntu]

I installed Retroarch and the Libretro cores from Hunter’s PPA, and everything appears to be working great except my saves are missing when I start the game again. I figured maybe the Mednafen PSX core is out of date but I have no idea what I need to do to compile it from the git. Retroarch also fails to make a save state in Mednafen PSX (I think because Mednafen can’t naturally do save states).

I also remember reading that Retroarch won’t write the saves unless you exit properly. I have been exiting by hitting the escape key, and Retroarch says it exited succesfully. I also figured I’d try the PSX-reARMed core but unfortunately I cannot find that in the PPA or pre-compiled elsewhere for Ubuntu.

For what it is worth I’m trying to play Xenogears, and it does save but the saves are all gone when I open the game again (also their are NO save files in the directory I set for saving or where the rom is located or the System Directory). I don’t have any other PSX games to try out but I’ll work on finding one around here and see if it can save correctly.

Any help is appreciated! Also obligitory, holy shit Retroarch is amazing and you guys are doing really impressive and also, I think, important work.

Ok, thanks for the report. It could very well be due to an older package. I’ll get a new package up ASAP and see about building PCSX-ReARMed, as well.

EDIT: You should be able to at least try the PCSX-ReARMed core, as it’s in my repo. Are you using the latest version of Ubuntu (raring) or something older?

Wow thanks, that sounds great! Thats better than I expected haha. Hopefully that will fix any save problems. I’m subbed to this thread so I’ll be sure to know as soon as you update and I’ll let you know how it works out.

EDIT: Turns out im on 12.10. I’m about to update right now actually so be back in a bit.

Alright, the new packages are up there, but it looks like the build queue is 7 hrs long -_-

No problem, I appreciate the fast response! I’ll know tomorrow if that fixes it at least then. Thanks again!

EDIT: That fixed it completely. Thanks a bunch Hunter! Now I can finally play Xenogears. Xenoblade Chronicles was so great it inspired me to check this gem I missed the first time around.
